Our commitment to a compassionate workplace
At the heart of the League is a shared compassion for animals, uniting us in a common cause. We recognise that our differences strengthen our work, bringing a wider range of perspectives that ultimately lead to better outcomes for the animals we exist to protect. As we work towards a world where animals are treated with the respect and care they deserve, we are committed to reflecting those same values in how we treat one another.
Our commitment goes beyond words. We aim to build a team that is passionate about our mission but reflective of the diverse society and supporters we serve. We recognise that people from ethnically diverse backgrounds are under-represented in the environmental charity sector and may face barriers when accessing opportunities. We are actively working to help address this imbalance.
Our Diversity & Inclusion Group plays a central role in this work, helping to shape an environment where everyone is treated with respect and has equitable opportunities to develop and progress. We regularly review our recruitment, development and employment practices, and we monitor workforce representation to support meaningful progress on equality, diversity and inclusion.
We also engage with sector-wide initiatives such as the RACE Report, and Wildlife and Countryside Link's Route Map to Boost Ethnic Diversity in the Environment Sector, helping to drive change beyond our own organisation.
Inclusion for us means creating a workplace where people feel able to be themselves, where differences are respected and valued, and where barriers to opportunity are actively identified and addressed. This is supported by our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy, which guides our approach across recruitment, development, progression and everyday practice.
We are committed to building a workplace where compassion for animals is reflected in how we treat one another, and where everyone has the opportunity to contribute, grow and thrive.
